How to carry out an Air Tightness Test – L2 / L1 Classification
Before You Begin
- Ensure the AHU is constructed per the required method and all openings are sealed appropriately.
- Have calibrated leakage and pressure testing equipment available.
- Record casing surface area before the test begins.
- Do not apply non-standard additional sealing beyond the standard construction.
Quick Overview
- Seal and prepare the AHU for pressure testing.
- Connect calibrated leakage and pressure testing equipment.
- Run the positive or negative pressure test and record leakage.
- Verify the pass result and retrieve certification data via the portal.
Keep This Guide On Hand
This guide demonstrates how to set up and complete air leakage testing in accordance with BS EN 1886, verify L2 and L1 performance, and retrieve the final test certification through the Client Portal.

Written Guide Overview
This written summary mirrors the booklet and gives users a quick reference to the key steps show in the video.
|
1
|
Prepare the AHU by sealing connections, blanking spigots, and confirming the total surface area to be tested. |
|
2
|
Connect the leakage tester and calibrated pressure gauge, then stabilise the unit at the required positive or negative pressure. |
|
3
|
Record leakage, compare the measured result to the allowable threshold, and verify whether the unit achieves L2 or L1 classification. |
|
4
|
Remove the test equipment, restore the AHU connections, and retrieve the signed certification and calibration references through the ECE Client Portal. |
What this guide covers
